This course has been structured with the objective of providing the students with an overview of the most important topics regarding the financial management of a company. Indeed, it focusses on some of the most important financial reporting documents every company needs to make, namely the balance sheet and the cash flow.
In addition to that, the course will teach the students how to make a business plan, which is the forecast of the financial situation of the company within n years from the moment of the analysis. Although in real life this kind of analysis requires having taken specific strategic decisions, which will not be extensively covered during the course, the students will have the chance to understand what kind of variables can be affected by commercial strategies. Practically, the students will learn what factors to consider when projecting their company’s financials in the future. This will allow them to be more ready to meet potential investors.
Furthermore, the course will go through some basic financial indicators that can be computed from the balance sheet and the cash flow: students will be introduced to basic concept of a company’s financial analysis.
In conclusion, the course will provide the students with a basic knowledge of a commonly used methodology for evaluating a business, namely the evaluation with multiples.
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
• Build a basic financial analysis of a company;
• Evaluate the performance of their company (basic level);
• Apply basic techniques to assess the financial performance of a company and to estimate its value (basic techniques);
• Remember what variables are important for a good financial performance of a company (basic level).
Students will not need a specific preliminary knowledge for this course.
The level of the course is basic. The methodologies and the tools the students will be taught are basic tools and frameworks which do not require specific mathematical or analytical skills.
